Wolf Trax

Published Wednesday, October 11, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

Through fund-raising efforts during the 1999-2000 school year, the Prescott Athletic Booster Club was able to provide luncheons for athletes and cheerleaders during each season, and members bagged "spirit cookies" for the basketball and track teams. The club purchased ads to show support for athletes participating in this East-West All-Star football and basketball games. It also purchased an ad in the Hooten's Football Magazine in support of the 2000 Curley Wolf football team. The PABC also donated $2000 to the PHS track program for the replacement of worn equipment so the district AAA track meet could be held at PHS this past spring.

The PABC organized a "booster business" program to gain community support for the athletic program. Businesses donating to the club received a sign, "We Support Prescott Athletics," to be displayed in their business window. In addition, a large banner listing the businesses is displayed at all local games, and businesses are listed in the football program.

The PABC has numerous items available for fans this year, including "Wolf Pack" car flags, decade achievement mugs, Curley Wolf yard signs, seat cushions, window stickers and license plates, maroon "You Know You're A Curley Wolf If" shirts, maroon Curley Wolf/Wolverette hats and maroon and white "lightning" hats. These items can be purchased at the PABC booster table at home games, or by calling Connie Cox at 887-2145, Claudette Harris at 887-3786, or Sandy Morman at 887-5101.

The PABC had its monthly meeting this past Tuesday. President Ralph Harris conducted the meeting with 13 members present.

Old business included discussion on outstanding money owed from the sale of the decade achievement mugs. Last spring each athlete was given a mug to show while taking orders from the public, with the understanding that each mug would be sold and paid for, or returned to the club. Presently PHS students owe the PABC over $700 and a large number of mugs are unaccounted for. If you are the parent of an athlete and your child still has money or a mug, please ask that they turn it in to a booster club officer or their coach.

The boosters also discussed the possibility of holding a fundraiser for the MMS athletic programs as soon as the reconstruction of the MMS gym is completed.

The officers for the 2000-2001 school year are Ralph and Claudette Harris, president; Terry and Connie Cox, vice-president; Sandy Morman, secretary; Debbie Bullock, treasurer; and Wanda Jones and Gene and Connie Martin, phone committee.

Coaches Armitage, Maxwell, and Kehner, were present at the meeting. Coach Maxwell discussed the need for the girls' softball field at the James Johnson Sports Complex. This field will need to be finished before winter weather in order for the team to hold games there next spring. Coaches Armitage and Kehner were present to discuss the seventh grade football team, which are 42 members strong for the 2000-2001 year. New equipment was fitted for the entire squad. Come out and show your support for these young men during their first football game this Thursday night.

The PABC will meet again November 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the PHS consumer science building. At this meeting the group will be discussing basketball concessions and the possible purchase of t-shirts and sweatshirts for the Wolves, Wolverettes, Cubs and Cubettes. All parents are encouraged to attend this meeting to have your opinion heard on the various issues concerning the upcoming basketball season.
