Classy Moments from CMSPublished Wednesday, October 11, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesWe had something that occurred that really got our attention: cold weather. The day of homecoming brought a sudden change in the weather at Cabe Middle School. We had students with shorts on and freezing to death, to hear them tell it. Although they were warned the day before about the change in the weather coming our way, some just didn't pay attention. Maybe next time. We are extremely proud of the homecoming royalty as they are former students of ours and we treasure the memories of each of them. Of course that goes for the football players as well. It is just difficult for us to accept that they are seniors. Mrs. Jester received new reference books for the CMS media center. They will really be great when Mrs. Clingan takes her classes in the media center for research during the next nine-week period. Students will have questions of which they have to find the answer in two different types of sources (not using a computer, but books). No one will have the same question, so it will really be a challenge for each student to get their questions answered on time. The new reference books arrived in a good time. A big thanks to Mrs. Jester for seeing the need for these books and for providing them for the students. Although we have had our school pictures taken some were not pleased with their choice or were absent at the time, so retakes will be taken Oct. 17. Say cheese' or peaches' just for practice. Thursday, October 19, from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. the parent/teacher conferences will be conducted. This will also make it convenient for those who need the measles and hepatitis B shots. The student must be with a parent, grandparent or guardian to be given the shot. The cost will be $3. Be sure to have the student's shot record. Oh, we are hearing "It will hurt," "Do you have to?" and "That's not fair," among other comments. The Clark County Health Department will be responsible for administrating the shots. Mrs. Bonnie Ross has really been treating our faculty like they are special. She has brought homemade fudge several times and when it arrives it is still warm. You talk about good! Thank you, Mrs. Ross, and just keep bringing the good treats. The cookbook will be available at the CD&E booth at the Forest Festival. Remember the proceeds will be going to Save the Pictures.' The books are $10 each and full of good recipes from former Gurdon graduates. The welcome mat is always out here at CMS as we are making those Classy Moments.
