Letter To The Editor - Understanding English

Published Wednesday, October 11, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

Re: article "Residency Questions Raised Over Candidate's Home," in The Gurdon Times of October 3, 2000.

The article said that Reeder stated Roebuck took out a $750,000 loan. My statement was that - If - Roebuck took out a loan in the amount of $750,000 (the estimated value) at 8 percent interest for thirty years, then Roebuck would be paying about $6,000 per month for the home. Roebuck could have paid cash for the house as far as I am aware. My statement was concerning the total cost of owning the property in Hot Springs, nothing more.

Covenants: Roebuck probably needs to re-read his covenants of the Ridge Creek Point area. The recorded covenants do not mention street lights. The street width mentioned in the covenant is 21 feet or as wide as the county road known as Cedar Grove Road at the time of construction. Is Roebuck reading or dreaming? Both of the above subjects are addressed in simple English that any average person should understand.

Roebuck never did show Reeder where the gate would be placed. First, I do not have the authority to give public property. And second, I would not have agreed to block any part of a public road. This is just another dream Roebuck had.

Had the pig farm been put in, Roebuck said, "it would have wiped out Caddo Valley." I am sure Caddo Valley appreciates super Roebuck saving the city. Roebuck seems to know more than all the Arkansas Pollution and Water Control Department personnel in Little Rock that are in charge of issuing permits. I am sure Roebuck is offended that they did not seek out his expertise in this matter. A dentist with Roebuck's credentials know more than any farmer or pollution control personnel?

At the bottom of the Roebuck signs he has the slogan: "A leader who listens." My question is to whom or what does he listen to and when?
