Mrs. Max Garland Hairston, 81, of Prescott died Sunday, October 8, in Carrollton, Texas.

Mrs. Hairston was born February 2, 1919, in Emmet to John McSwain and Elizabeth Christopher Garland. She was a retired registered nurse with the Arkansas State Health Department for 26 years. She was a graduate of Washington University School of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Prescott, a member of D.A.R., Delta Kappa Gamma, Rose Garden Club and the Nevada County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Glenn Hairston.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Ali Rahmani of Carrollton, Texas; one stepson, James Hairston and his wife Ruth Ann of Hope; one stepdaughter, Ruth Cummings of Texarkana, Ark.; one sister, Elizabeth Garland Stratman of Carrollton; two grandchildren, Max Kizziar and Holly Kizziar, both of Carrollton; two step-grandchildren, Todd Cummings of Bossier City, La., and Chris Hairston of Hot Springs; four great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and one special cousin, Elizabeth Haltom of Prescott.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, October 11, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Prescott with Rev. Jim Lenderman officiating. Burial will follow in Snell Cemetery in Emmet under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, October 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Prescott, American Cancer Society or to Snell Cemetery.
