A new month has arrived. It is one of my favorite times of the year.

The only unpleasant thing I can think of about the month of October is that it's time to pay property taxes

again.

Hunters have begun to move back into these parts, building and repairing deer stands, looking for the perfect place to hunt, and just getting everything ready for their favorite time of year.

Visitors from other states sometimes ask about the funny looking purple paint they see on trees along our highways. It is a state-approved paint to be used for posting property and means "Posted-Keep Out". The good colors were already being used by timber companies, so our lawmakers decided to approve this paint, which appearsto be a first cousin to Pepto-Bismol. One good thing is that tourists passing through might be distracted by the paint and not notice all the litter along on our highways.

Mildred Booker of Camden died last Thursday and was buried at Bluff City Cemetery on Sept. 30.

Oleta Nelson was taken to a Texarkana hospital early Sunday morning after suffering another of her fainting spells. Hopefully, they can find the cause.

James Nelson seems to have switched from cattle farming to raising goats.

The two-inch rain we received last Sunday was quickly soaked up by our deep sand. We are ready for another one whenever the Good Lord sees fit to send it.

This week we look back to the year 1944. The U. S. was involved in World War II and some of our local folks were enjoying going to the Gem Theater in Prescott to see such great shows as Hi Ya, Sailor, Four Jills and a Jeep, and Two Girls

and A Sailor. Admission prices were 12 cents and 19 cents.
