An area wide youth rally will be hosted by First Assembly of God Mon., Oct. 16, at 7:00 p.m. A praise and worship band from Hot Springs will be ministering. The church is located at 1007 E. Main Street in Gurdon. Call 353-2804 for more information. Everyone is welcome.

The Gurdon Chapter of the HSU Alumni will meet Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Gurdon Municipal Building.

A meal will be served. John Gyllin, alumni director at HSU, will report on the plans for homecoming 2000 and he will introduce the new athletic director.

The Clark County chapter of the Arkansas State Employees Association (A.S.E.A.) will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Clark County Health Unit in Arkadelphia.

The meeting will be candidates' night. Legislative candidates and legislators have been invited to attend. A.S.E.A. field representative Marc Watts will also be in attendance to lead a discussion about the association's new pay plan proposal.

All state employees in Clark County are invited to attend.

If you have a special craft and are looking for a way to make a little extra holiday spending money, the Artesian Arts League in Prescott is looking for you. Hempstead County Miss Southern Girl Pageant will be held Sat., Oct. 21, at Klipsch Auditorium in Hope. It is sponsored by St. Luke Church #2 at Shepherd and will benefit Harris Johnson Jr., a stroke victim. Anthony Williams, back-up singing for Pattie LaBelle, is scheduled to perform.

The Area Agency on Aging of West Central Arkansas board will meet Friday, October 6, at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will be at McAuley Senior Center in Hot Springs Village. The public is invited to attend.

All business meetings conducted by the board of directors except those dealing exclusively with internal personnel matters are open to the public. This is in compliance with the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act.

The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend.

The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather.

Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
