Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, May 19, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

We were entertained Monday by the Gurdon High School Choir under the direction of Mrs. Hitt. CMS students took advantage of the opportunity of an afternoon performance and really enjoyed the talent those students shared. Monday evening the choir performed for the public and, as the saying goes, "It is better the second time around." Thanks to each of the choir members for great entertainment and to Mrs. Hitt for her hard work.

The CMS Student Council assembly will be presented May 19 at 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. The new officers and representatives will be installed. You are invited to attend this program.

Following the assembly, the Gurdon Junior High choir will perform for CMS students. This will be a most enjoyable performance, as the students have been working really hard to perform to the best of their ability.

Mrs. Hitt had a very special event happen in her family and we will be hearing more about that, probably a lot more! Mrs. Hitt's oldest daughter, Sarah, got married and mom is almost a basket case! All kidding aside, we express our most sincere congratulations to the bride and groom.

The eighth grade graduation will be held May 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym. The students are so excited and looking forward to the big event. The top ten students are Becky Callaway, Claya Calley, Bonnie Ferguson, Andi Finley, Lacy Jester, Jake Plyler, Cody Quillin, Kelly Runyan, Rebecca Stephens and Christina Taylor. You will hear more about those students next week.

Our student teachers have completed their work at CMS and received their diplomas over the weekend. Good luck to you!

We were glad to get the good news that Mrs. Green is back home and doing real well. The baby is precious.

Presidents, presidents! In case you might hear names of the Presidents, the eighth graders are learning and reciting all 42. Many have found it to be a lot easier than expected.

The 'Cabe Wall,' as it might be called, is so nice. The display consists of the pictures of the old Gurdon Middle School and the new Cabe Middle School, as drawn by art teacher Debbie White.

Also plaques, letters and other pictures grace the wall. We are so proud of all that has been done to make our school a beautiful place in which to enjoy. When you come for a visit, be sure to notice the left wall in the entrance and enjoy the 'Cabe Wall.'

A big thanks to Don Mills, Mr. Smithson, Anita Cabe, Julia Smithson and Ann Clingan for taking time to get the task completed.

The Gurdon School bands performed an outstanding concert at Beech Street Baptist Church May 13. Mr. Hulan, president of the Gurdon Band Boosters, presented Mr. Wimberly and Mr. Burnson with plaques expressing their appreciation for the hard work they do to make the band program such a success. Mr. Green, student teacher from OBU, was given a gift of appreciation for his work with the band.

The CMS Student Council seems to be glowing as the very first CMS yearbook has arrived. They are so proud of their work. It has been most enjoyable watching as the students get signatures from their friends in their books. If you would like to purchase one of the yearbooks, call 353-4311.

The CMS awards assembly will be held May 26. We invite you to attend.

A stamped, self-addressed envelope will provide the grades to be mailed instead of having to come to school on May 27.

This school year is almost at a close. Hard to believe? Yes, it is! Until the last day, however, we will be making those Classy Moments at CMS.
