Two Vehicle Accident Claims Life On Highway 67BY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, October 4, 2000 in the Gurdon Times A two-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 20-year-old Gurdon resident Tuesday, Sept. 26. According to Gurdon City Marshal David Childres, Bobby Wayne Griffin, also known as B.J. Griffin, was traveling south on Highway 67 around 5 a.m. A log truck owned and operated by Charles Wesley Roberts of Mount Ida, had pulled out of the gravel area owned by Smith Ready Mix and onto Hwy. 67. Roberts told officers he saw headlights approaching in his rearview mirror, with the driver of the vehicle not slowing down. A few seconds later he felt something hit the back of his rig and puled off the highway. The 1991 Dodge Shadow driven by Griffin had ran into the logs, with a log going through the windshield of the his car. Childres said there were no signs Griffin had hit his brakes and he may have been asleep. A blood sample was taken by the Gurdon Police Department as a precautionary measure, but, Childres said, there was no odor of alcohol about the victim or vehicle. The Arkansas Highway Police were called in to investigate as a semi was involved and found nothing wrong with the rig. No citations were issued.
