Malone Tabbed Top 10 LegislatorBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 19, 1999 in the Gurdon Times State Representative Percy Malone was recently named one of Arkansas' 10 best legislators by a state newspaper. Every two years, immediately following the legislative session, the legislators are evaluated on their effectiveness, sound relationships, good legislative proposals, solid thinking, legislative interaction and commitment to the public. Malone, in his third term, is one of only four members of the Arkansas House of Representatives to be so recognized for his work during the session. His chairmanship of the joint budget committee and effectiveness in this role are part of the reason he was named as one of the 10 best legislators in the state. In addition, Malone worked hard to improve the conditions at the state's Human Development Centers. It was stated in an article about the session one of Malone's better works didn't come legislatively, but through his work to help forge an agreement with the state's officials and Gov. Mike Huckabee to provide the centers $7 to $10 million more in the coming biennium. "I am gratified by this recognition of my efforts on behalf of the citizens of South Arkansas," Malone said. "I am particularly proud of the work we did to improve conditions at our Human Development Centers and provide a much greater quality of care to those residents who so desperately need it."
