Classy Moments from Cabe Middle School

Published Wednesday, September 27, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

Summer is officially over and autumn is here. The way time seems to be flying by Christmas will be here before we know it.

The junior football team really showed Stamps how to play ball. It was Gurdon 30 and Stamps 0. Davion Williams made three touchdowns. We are proud of our team and the coaches.

The game provided the first out-of-town trip for our junior high cheerleaders for this year. The team was very much aware of the support of the cheerleaders and their fans. Cassy Purifoy, first year cheerleader, was surprised to see so many Gurdon fans attend the game. Cheerleaders for the week are Taylor Pace and Katie Barbaree.

The seventh graders played their first game with Stamps. They played hard and determined, but Stamps prevailed. We are proud of our seventh graders and especially proud of the good sportsmanship that they showed.

Those fifth and seventh graders are certainly glad to know that the Stanford 9 test is now history' for them. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday they were busy with the text for three periods each day.

A delicious potluck was enjoyed by the faculty to honor our new teachers. CMS has great cooks. The new teachers are just members of the family now and are feeling right at home.

Mrs. Ferguson, seventh and eighth grade English, has made the students aware of writing skills. They did not know they could write so much.

Mrs. Clingan also expects the eighth graders to take notes in history class. (Can you imagine?)

CMS Student Council president Christa Hopson and vice president Jordan Purifoy have been busy getting the students to register for the mock election to be held Nov. 6. If a student failed to register correctly they will not be allowed to vote. Candidates will be selected later.

Next week will be a busy one as we have annual public meeting Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 27, Student Council assembly at 1:30 p.m.

We seem to always find time and excitement making those Classy Moments at CMS.
