Commission Makes Repair Offer

Gurdon's Water and Sewer Commission decided offer the Ken and Sue Harris, owners of the Pizza Barn in Gurdon a percentage of their highest bid in restitution.

During a fire hydrant break, the parking lot on the south side of the business received extensive damage. Charles Summerford, of Summerford Engineering in Arkadelphia, concurred damage to the south side of the drive-through was due to the fire hydrant leaking, in a letter to department manager, Harold Hurst.

The commission, after much discussion, will offer a one time only settlement of 20 percent of the highest bid received by the Harris's for repairs to the parking lot. The highest bid, according to letters received by Hurst, was $9,475.

The Harris's will be expected to sign a release to the department before they will receive any monies.

The scraping of the current bookkeeping system at the water and sewer department has been put on the back burner until such time as more of the public takes an interest in the subject.

The noticeably absent turnout for a hearing on the subject convinced the commission few of Gurdon citizens were overly concerned about the issue.

The dirt and fencing work on the Miller Street lift station is expected to be finished this month, according to Hurst. The work was delayed while electrical work was completed.
