Public Meeting Held At Emmet Schools

The Emmet School District held its public meeting September 11 at 7 p.m. in the school cafetorium to inform patrons of the school's goals, policies, programs and improvements.

Emmet School goals for the school year include:

Improve the average reading score on the SAT-9 for students in grades 6-8 to 50%.

Improve the student's ACT scores.

Have all students on grade level in reading and math in grades K-4.

Increase the number of graduates enrolling in college.

The following programs have been implemented to meet these goals: reading recovery program, ABC pre-kindergarten program, K-4 summer program; SHOTS  a summer enrichment program for K-6, electronic bookshelf in the elementary and high schools, student academic incentive program, Eye Catcher program in the elementary school, a greater variety of extracurricular activities, teacher in-service in technology, all classrooms accessible to the Internet, ACT summer program, Smart Start program and Smart Step program.

School improvements will include the installation of elementary in-school computer network, completion of new bus stop, remodel vocational home economics building, Distance Learning program with Arkansas School of Math and Science, golf and cross country sports added to the curriculum, summer ACT school for high school juniors and seniors, complete a new elementary building annex and increase SAT-9 test scores in grades 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7.

Emmet School continues to provide an after school daycare program for benefits of working parents. The daycare program stays open until 6 p.m. daily for a nominal fee.

Patrons were also informed that Emmet School District's enrollment has increased 50% since 1990, and that the district is in compliance with all state standards.
