Coy Edward Draper, 85, of Prescott passed away Monday, September 11, 2000, in a Texarkana hospital.

Mr. Draper was born August 9, 1915, in Ozan to Matthew Thomas and Minnie B. Coleman Draper. He was a retired vocational agriculture teacher, principal and mathematics instructor with 31 years in public schools. Mr. Draper accepted Christ at an early age and was affiliated with the White Oak CME Church in Ozan in 1928. On November 2, 1941, he united in holy matrimony with Ernestine Suttles. Later he joined Zion Chapel CME Church and served as trustee and chairman of the steward board. Aside from his Christian devotion and passionate commitment to his family he was known for his respect for education. He graduated from Childress High School in Nashville and received his B.S. from AM&N College (now UAPB) in 1941. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and Arkansas State in Jonesboro for graduate studies. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After retirement he united with Cothran Chapel CME Church in Prescott, where he remained until his death.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ernestine Draper of Prescott; one sister, Clovis Washington of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law, Jodie Compton, Ona Bell Suttles and Esther Draper all of St. Louis Mo., and Gurtha Draper of Pine Bluff; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 16, at Cothran Chapel CME Church in Prescott with Sister Annie Hubbard, pastor, and Rev. Monteal Rhynes, presiding elder, officiating. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
