Emmet Graduation Scheduled For Friday

Commencement exercises for Emmet High School will be held Friday evening, May 21, at 8:00 in the Ross Gymnasium. Tim Chambless will be the speaker.

Chambless is the son of Herbert and Sally Chambless of Prescott.

Chambless has been a sales representative for 15 years with Jostens Printing and Publishing, the largest yearbook company in the world. He has been in the top five percent of the company in sales and leadership since joining Jostens. He recently was inducted into the Admiral's Club, a honor club recognizing lifetime sales.

He attended and graduated as salutatorian of Emmet High School in 1977. He received his college degree in marketing with a minor in accounting from Henderson State University in 1981.

He has been married to Darlene for five years and is the proud father of Ali, 9, and Cole, 6. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, golf, reading and spending time with his family.

Valedictorian at Emmet High this year is Linda Stephens, the 17-year-old daughter of Joe and Nita Stephens. She has a 3.5 grade point average (GPA).

Stephens has attended Emmet and has been on the honor roll since kindergarten.

During her senior year, she was president of the Beta Club and Student Council; was chosen to be a page for a day for Sen. Mike Ross at the Capitol in Little Rock and was selected to Who's Who Among American High School Students.

She has also been a part of the Library Club, gifted and talented, talent search, captain of the senior girls basketball team and also belongs to the Explorer 84 Club at Medical Park Hospital.

In her spare time, She enjoys volunteering at the hospital, babysitting, riding her horse, going 4-wheeler riding, and playing basketball with her big brother Brian and P.J.

Rachel Elliott, the 18-year-old daughter of Roy and Pam Elliott, has received the honor of salutatorian with a 3.47 GPA.

Her favorite subject is chemistry, taught by Mike Smith.

She has been a cheerleader for four years and captain for three years.

During her senior year, she was vice president of the Beta Club and secretary of the Student Council. She has also been a member of the gifted and talented for four years.

Elliott was also chosen cheerleading All-Star the summer of 1998 to cheer in London and Australia at the national level, but was unable to attend due to the lack of funds, a great disappointment to her.

Elliott plans to attend UACCH for two years and three years at Henderson with a major in speech pathology.

In her spare time, she enjoys being with her boyfriend, Chad Adamson.

Honor graduates are Lisa Hawthorne and Tambra Tipton.

Baccalaureate was held Sunday, May 16, at 2:30 p.m. in the Emmet School cafetorium. Steve Kelly, a teacher and technology coordinator at Emmet High School, was the speaker.
