Classy Moments from CMSPublished Wednesday, September 20, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesThe students kept busy selling School R Us' cards, and the company kept its word to give away a Compaq laptop computer. Students who sold five cards had their names put into a container and hoped their name would be the one drawn for the big prize. We were anxiously awaiting before we were aware the time had finally arrived! Over the intercom we heard, "The name is Jack Wolf." We congratulate Jack and hope he will enjoy the computer. We are honored to have second runner-up in the Clark County Junior Miss Pageant. Taylor Pace made our school proud. Her question for the interview was to tell the audience how her missionary trip to Alabama helped her. Taylor, like a professional speech maker, answered with such confidence and immediately won the respect and admiration of the audience. She was just beautiful in her white formal. "We're proud of you, Taylor." We are not through with the pageant as our own Katie Barbaree performed with the song All That Jazz. She was the winner in our opinion. She is just lucky that there was no scouts there, as she probably would have to decide as to finish school or become a professional singer. Time will be there for her at the right moment. Our seventh and eighth graders enjoyed an assembly presented by the Christian Athletics Association. Steve Fitzhugh, former free safety for the Denver Broncos, was the guest speaker. He shared incidents of family members and friends who had used drugs and how their lives were messed up, some permanently. He was trying to let our students become more aware of the danger of using drugs. Students enjoyed the assembly. Each was given a card with Steve's picture on it and a little personal information about him. He gave an autographed football to the school. We were saddened to hear of the death of Henry Bell as we know he dedicated so much of his life by helping in the education of a large number of students. He's "gone, but never forgotten." How about our junior high football team? Two in a row. The just took control of Springhill and looked as though they really enjoyed themselves. We are so proud of Franklin Smith, as he ran 70 yards for a touchdown. Marcel Johnson and Hunter Johnson certainly said "Hello" to the Springhill team. Great job!! Cassey Purifoy and Haley Griffin were the cheerleaders of the week. The Cabe Middle School Student Council met and have several ideas of various needs for our school. Christa Hopson, president, and Jordan Purifoy, vice president, are staying busy making certain that the flags are displayed correctly and the Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem are ready each morning. In fact CMS is a busy place for all of us as we are always making those Classy Moments at CMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
