Letter To The EditorPublished Wednesday, September 20, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesDear Editor: In regards to the recent letters to the editor concerning the city council meeting in August I, as City Marshal, would like to say nothing was said personally against Delton Simpson. I know that Delton Simpson has gone out of his way trying to help the youths of Gurdon and also adults, trying to keep them out of trouble with the law and helping them find jobs and just trying to help with their lives in general. The people who have been downing me in the paper don't know what was said, because none of them was at the city council meeting, nor have I seen most of them ever attending one. The paper has a way of making things sound different than what was said. What was said in reference to a curfew was that juveniles were walking the streets well into the morning hours on the weekends after the gym was closed, sometimes around 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. I said that it was not helping the kids by staying out that late. Yes, we have had a problem with fires and, yes, juveniles have started some of them. On one of the nights after a fire two white juvenile males were caught by the fire department trying to start another fire. So, don't say we don't have evidence or don't know. I ask anyone who wants to know the facts about what goes on or what is said at the city council meeting to come hear for yourself. Also feel free to ask any police officer who went on at night in Gurdon before the curfew was put into effect. They will be glad to tell you. David Childres City Marshal P.S. No, my brother and I have not had a falling out. I probably will have to withdraw my name due to health reasons. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
