Henry Ivory Bell Sr., 97, of Gurdon died Sunday, September 9, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Bell was born January 3, 1903, in Beirne, the son of the late William and Anna Bell. He was principal of Gurdon Primary School and Henry Bell High School, which was named for him. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, the Parent Teacher Association, the Cable Tow Masonic Lodge, the board of directors of Baptist Medical Center and the Arkansas Educators Association.

Mr. Bell was inducted into the Gurdon High School Academic Hall of Fame. He was a member and deacon of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Gurdon.

Survivors include a son, Henry Bell Jr. of Gurdon; two brothers, J.C. Bell of Omaha, Nebr., and Beirnie Bell of Oakland, Calif.; one step-brother, Ollie Johnson of Gurdon; and three sisters, Christine Hatley of Beirne, Gussie Mae Kelleybrew and Maude Eva Echols of Omaha, Nebr.

Funeral services were Saturday, September 16, at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Gurdon with Rev. Johnny Harris officiating. Burial was in Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
