Bluff City NewsBY JERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, September 13, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune We are enjoying the cooler weather, but we are in need of more rainfall. Last winter brought a record snow storm, and this summer has been one of record heat. We have also had record gasoline prices. I think we have broken enough records. It's time to get back to normal. Jeanie and I traveled to Missouri last week. It was nice to see some green grass for a change and the temperature was not quite as hot there. I'm afraid the leaves will not be as pretty this fall, unless brown is your favorite color. Many of the leaves have already turned brown and are falling off. Ewell Gulley Jr. died Aug. 26. Burial was at Bluff City Cemetery. Also to be buried at Bluff City Cemetery sometime this week is Eugene Carter of Albuquerque, N.M. Arrangements are incomplete at this writing. He was a son of Jesse and Stella Carter. Vernell Loe had surgery in Texarkana a few days ago and was able to come home the same day. She seems to be improving each day. James Buster' Green also had surgery in Little Rock a few days ago. He is home now, but will require further treatments in the near future. I dug back in the archives and found this tidbit from 1938. A pie supper was held at Bluff City Oct. 27, 1938. Eva Dell Neal was chosen as the most beautiful girl and George Henry was chosen as the most popular boy. Check back next week. In the meantime, plant yourself a turnip patch if it rains at your place. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
