A reunion of the Quarles Johnson, Leaks and Burnell families was held September 1-3. It started at the Johnson home and went to Quarles and Marsh homes and ended up at Mt. Vernon AME homecoming. There were a lot of people and some I did not know. They were from Connecticut, California, Texas, Michigan, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Washington, D.C., Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Wisconsin and Montana. Around 460 attended. Most attended church at Mt. Vernon. They really did raise a lot of money.

Mrs. Odessa Zackery lost her daughter, Dais Zackery. She had her clothes packed to come home. Let's pray for the Zackerys. Their pastor, Rev. Chester Fort, went all the way to Omaha, Neb., with them. That was nice of him to go with his members.

Missionary Tessie Scott brought the morning message at Mt. Vernon. Our presiding elder, Rev. T.W. Adair, brought the evening message. We had a nice day.

Lee Eunice Cole's funeral was held at Munn's Chapel Baptist Church in Prescott Friday, September 8, with Rev. Henry Bell officiating. Burial was in New Salem Cemetery in Rosston under the direction of Hicks Funeral Home of Hope.

The Oak Grove Civic League meeting was held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The following members were present: Herbert Coleman, Leo Holleman, Erby C. William, Ardell Johnson, Rose Williams, Lula Kendrick, Milton Lowe and Alvin Tidwell. We meet the first Tuesday every month. Please come out and help us keep the civic league going. I am the oldest member left to tell the story. All the rest have died.

Homecoming will be held at Cana AME Church Sunday with Rev. Bobby Box bringing the evening message and his choir from Harrison Chapel singing.

Freddie Dixon and wife Margaret visited me Sunday afternoon.

Big Daddy' to the family and Willie' to friends, W.L. Bazelle of Hockessin, formerly of Rosston, celebrated his 102nd birthday July 15. He lives with his son and daughter-in-law, Minnie and William Bazzelle.
