Wolf TraxPublished Wednesday, September 13, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneBooster Club News The Prescott Booster Club has been and will continue feeding the senior high football squad and coaches each Friday at the elementary cafeteria at 4:00 p.m. in the Curley Wolf Cafi. A lot of work goes into these healthy meals and a lot of effort goes into decorating for the team. The Booster Club would like to offer a big thank you to the following for volunteering their time: Emma Stephens, Jane Randolph, Lori Arnett, Dana Fincher, Julia Ingram and Ron and Connie Wright, as well as these members for volunteering their time: Ralph and Claudette Harris, Connie Cox, Sandy Morman, Debbie Bullock, Wanda Jones, Beckie Loe and Deborah Charles. The Booster Club would like to urge everyone to stop by the booster table at each home game. They have a variety of spirit items for sale, including car flags, bleacher cushions, caps, t-shirts and they also have booster memberships available. Gridiron Gossip The Curley Wolves played hard Friday night and while there is still room for improvement, Coach Armitage felt they played a good game. The coaches believe that the Curley Wolves will continue to improve throughout the year. They encourage everyone to come out and support the hometown team. Mr. Offense this week is Decolon Prater, a junior Wolf. He is the 15-year-old son of Emma Young and Fred Prater. Decolon is involved in several activities at PHS and in the community, including FBLA, Boys to Men, OBU talent search and Macedonia Church youth group. Decolon was awarded the offensive award this week due to catching two touchdown passes as well as the two-point conversion pass. Mr. Defense is senior Wolf Ralph Marlow, the 17-year-old son of Gail Scott and Sam Marlow. Ralph is very active at PHS and in the community. He is a member of FBLA, FCS and SADD. He is senior class vice president and vice president of the Student Council. Ralph attended Boys State this past summer, is a member of National Honor Society (NHS) and he is a Kiwanis Honor student. Ralph is also a member of Upward Bound, the Generation Next Youth Group, Boys to Men and Munn's Chapel youth group. He was nominated for academics and athletics to Who's Who Among American High School Students in his sophomore and junior years. Ralph was chosen as Mr. Defense for having the most tackles in the Hope game. Spirit Talk The PHS cheerleaders would like to congratulate four of their fellow squad mates for being elected to the 2000 homecoming court. Senior Britnie McCauley, varsity captain, will be crowned queen this Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the PHS gym. Her court will include senior maid and varsity captain Abby Morman; junior maid Megan Reeder; and sophomore maid Sheena Gillard. Cheerleader Spotlight Cheerleader sponsor Terri Vandiver has chosen Abby Morman and Britnie McCauley for this week's spotlight. She feels that they deserve recognition for their hard work and for the leadership qualities that they have shown throughout their six years of cheering for the Curley Cubs and Wolves. Abby is the 17-year-old daughter of Mike and Sandy Morman. She is a 13-year senior and is involved in many school activities. She is the parliamentarian for the Student Council, the senior class secretary, and the parliamentarian for FBLA. She is involved in a variety of campus clubs including Key Club, Art Club, Spanish Club, Science Club and NHS. She has also been nominated for Who's Who Among American High School Students during her freshman, sophomore, and junior years for athletics and cheerleading and she was nominated for NCA All-American in 1996 and 2000. Abby has participated in several community service activities, including the Angel Tree, collecting for Toys for Tots, collecting for UNICEF and helping with various food and coat drives. Abby is a member of Central Baptist Church. Britnie is the 17-year-old daughter of Gary and Charlotte McCauley. As a senior Britnie is involved in FBLA, Key Club, Spanish Club and Science Club. She maintains a 4.0 GPA, is a Kiwanis honor student and is a member of NHS. She was nominated for Who's Who Among American High School Students in her freshman, sophomore and junior years for academic and athletics-cheerleading. Britnie has been nominated for NCA All-American for the past six years and she was a finalist in 1999 and 2000. Britnie has been involved in several community projects, including Angel Tree, and she has participated in food drives. She is a member of the United Methodist Church and is a member of United Methodist Youth.As Prescott Curley Wolf cheerleaders Abby and Britnie were members of the NCA top 1,000 squad list on the 1997-1998 squad and received an NCA bid to the nationals on the 1999-2000 squad. Both are six-year Prescott honor cheerleaders. The PHS senior high cheerleaders would like to thank Juanita Hubbard, Sandy Morman, and Beckie Loe for helping to complete game signs during this last month. Thanks to Mrs. Juanita for finding a place for them to paint; thanks to Mrs. Sandy, for drawing off her millionth sign; and thanks to Mrs. Beckie for keeping us in supplies. News Flash Wally Watson, our PHS mascot, is getting ready to retire. He is 42 years old and feels that a younger member of his family might enjoy spending time with the students and athletes. In his old age Walley is suffering from paw rot, dropped-ear-syndrome, the mange and he has severe tooth decay. Stay tuned for more Walley news. Musical Notes We would like to welcome our new band director Robert Fellows. He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He is from Warren and taught at Warren for five years before coming to Prescott. The Wolf Pride marching band will be presenting a '70s halftime show, including the Theme from Shaft, Celebration, Bad Girl and Hotel California. Band member of the week is Lauren Harris, the 14-year-old daughter of Fred and Debbie Harris. She is a ninth grader at PHS and a three-year music student. Mr. Fellows reports that Lauren is a very efficient member of the Wolf Pride band, one who sees what needs to be done and then goes about quietly, making sure it is done. He states that she is a very dependable student and band member. All sixth grade band students and parents should meet Tuesday, September 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the PHS band room for orientation. Information about ordering instruments will be given then. The Wolf Pride band will attend its first contest October 10 at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Friday, Sept. 15 homecoming coronation and pep rally, PHS gym, 2:00 p.m.; Dress Up Daydress your best for homecoming! Homecoming ceremony at Cummins Field, 7:00 p.m., Curley Wolves vs. Go-Devils, Cummins Field at 7:30 p.m.; homecoming reception, consumer science building, immediately following game; fifth quarter at Central Baptist Church immediately following game.
