Letters To The EditorPublished Wednesday, September 13, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesDear Editor, We are writing to express our disagreement with statements made in an article that ran in The Gurdon Times on Aug. 23. The article was titled "Council Orders Juvenile Curfew." Gurdon City Marshal David Childres made representations that appear to be his own opinion. He did not mention any evidence to substantiate his statements. Has City Marshal Childres attended a function held by Delton Simpson at the old Gurdon Middle School gymnasium? Has City Marshal Childres personally witnessed any child under the age of 18 in possession of an incendiary device? What qualifies City Marshal Childres to make a determination as to the effectiveness of a community youth program? We agree that children under the age of 18 should not be out after midnight. Parental responsibility is the answer to this problem. We applaud Mayor Rick Smith and the Gurdon City Council for being pro-active in response to this situation. We support Delton Simpson in his efforts and encourage others to become involved with the youth of this community. Mt. Canaan Baptist Church Samuel De. Harwick, Vikiten Bell Harwick, Joseph A.
