Classy Moments from Cabe Middle School

Published Wednesday, September 13, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

I really made a big mistake last week by not getting the article in on time. Just completely let it slip my mind (no comments, please) of having articles in early due to the Labor Day holiday. To those of you who called to check on "it not being in the paper," thank you so much for just letting me know it was missed.

We have completed the last day for the short schedule, as Monday, Sept. 11, Cabe Middle School was back to the regular schedule. We appreciated the short schedule due to the hot weather. Yes, we do have an air conditioned building and we are proud of it, but the gym is not air conditioned and P.E. classes were very difficult to conduct. Also, following lunch, the students have a few minutes before going back to class and it was hot outside.

The junior high football team defeated Bismarck 16 to 12. The junior Go-Devils really played hard against a very determined Bismarck team. Marcel Johnson, Davion Williams and Steven Plyler really contributed their best effort to the victory. Great job, team.

The pep rally that was held Thursday had the entire student body ready to go out on the playing field. The Go-Devil spirit was with the team. Students, cheerleaders and band members were great.

Cheerleaders of the week were Desinty Talley and Blair Griffin.

We extend a big welcome to Coach Kirkpatrick, junior high girls' basketball coach. Of course, we will miss Mrs. Escalante who has been keeping the girls busy until a new coach was hired. Thank you for such a good job and especially for putting up with the heat in the gym. (Remember, there is no air conditioning.)

Although we have been on the short schedule, I must say that it did not keep the cooks from preparing delicious meals. We are so fortunate to have caring people, especially those who are good cooks, too.

The new kids on the block, Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. McClure and Mrs. Leamons are feeling right at home. It is always difficult to say goodbye, but so nice to extend a warm welcome to the new faculty members.

Thanks to you also, our faithful readers, for your support and encouragement while we continue to make those classy moments at CMS.
