Brothers Running For City Marshall

There's an interesting turn of events politically in Gurdon.

David Childres, city marshal, filed as a Democrat for reelection earlier this year. Friday, the deadline for filing as an independent, his brother Don submitted a petition for the post of city marshal as well.

This will be the only locally contested race on the November 7 general election ballot.

Tambra Smith is seeking reelection as Gurdon city recorder on the Democratic party ticket. She is unopposed.

Gene Flowers turned in a petition to be the councilman for Ward 2, while Karen Parker did likewise for Ward 3.

But, there are six wards in Gurdon, now with four having no candidates for office.

Gurdon Mayor Rick Smith said all members of the council were notified in the packet of information they received for the August meeting.

To fill these open positions, Smith will have to find appointees from the appropriate wards.
