Mom's In Touch prayer group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, May 27, and Thursday, June 24. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind checks. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. The Southwest Arkansas Bar-B-Que Association in Delight will hold its state championship cook-off Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22. There is guaranteed prize money of $5,000. Grand champion will be awarded a pit from King Fisher Kountry Kookers and other gifts. The gifted and talented program for Nevada Public Schools is now taking applications for nominations for the gifted program. If you believe that your child displays characteristics of giftedness, go by the office to pick up an application. Pat Bingham, G/T coordinator, will be glad to examine your child's SAT 9 test scores and academic performance. The Gospel Soul Searchers from Springhill, La., and the Pastor's Aid Club will render their annual musical program Sunday, June 6, at Shorter Chapel AME Church in Blevins beginning at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Commodities will be issued on June 24 at the Senior Citizens Center in Prescott. Your card must be re-evaluated before commodities can be received. The annual children's day and homecoming will be held Sunday, May 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Midway United Methodist Church. The children's program will be held in the morning, potluck at lunch with singing in the afternoon. Bro. Jerry Westmoreland and the congregation invite all friends and singers to attend. Rachael and Raymond Page of Gurdon are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Raina Raven Leeann Page on Friday, May 7, 1999. She weighed 7 pounds and 3 ounces and was 19+ inches long. Grandparents are Tamula Windham of Gurdon and Lanny Sterman of Stewardstown, Penn., and Barbara and Franklin Page of Prescott. Great grandparents are Bonnie and Kenny Kashier of Gurdon. The annual meeting of the Red Hill Public Cemetery Association will be held Sunday, May 23, at 2:30 p.m. at Red Hill United Methodist Church in Chidester. Natasha Jamison of Prescott is proud to announce the birth of her son, Deonte Marquote Jamison on Tuesday, May 11, 1999. He weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20+ inches long. Grandmother is Carolyn Jamison of Prescott. Pete and Anita Norman of Emmet are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Zowie Layne, on Thursday, April 22. She weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces and was 20 inches long. Paternal grandparents are Ray and Mattie Norman of Washington. The time is near to be thinking about entering the Nevada County Fair Queen pageant. The ages are two through 21. The date has been moved up this year to September 2 and 4. Entry forms, along with rules and information, will be available June 1. There will be more information in the Picayune at a later date. The Chamber of Commerce has Prescott-Hope has free plastic litter bags for your car or truck. These bags are from Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Nevada County. You may pick them up at 116 East Second. The Laneburg Cemetery Association will meet at Laneburg Baptist Church Monday, June 7, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. D.J. Shon 'Grape' Gulley will be performing in the old Willisville School building Saturday, May 22, at 9 p.m. Admission is $2. There is an arcade, pool room and an inside diner.
