Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be in Prescott at the courthouse September 28. Supplemental Security Income pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible call 1-800-772-1213. S.C.A.N., (suspected child abuse and neglect) needs volunteers. There will be a committee meeting Sunday, September 9, in preparation for a reunion of the PHS class of 1990. The meeting will be held at Prescott Country Club. All class members are urged to attend. The McRae Middle School PTP is offering various items for sale this year to fund projects that will benefit the school. Martin and Jackson reunion will be held Saturday, September 9, at White Oak State Park pavilion. This is a once a year event. Attendance has been good each year. Everyone should take potluck and enjoy the day. Nevada County Health Alliance will sponsor the community coffee Thursday, September 7, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's community room. Go out and help them celebrate wellness and kick-off a successful Health Fair to be held Saturday, September 9, in the First Baptist Church gym from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Wicker reunion will be held in the community room at Prescott Housing Authority on Hale Avenue Sunday, September 10, at 10 a.m. A potluck lunch will be served at noon. Patricia Gulley Ingram of Prescott is proud to announce the birth of her daughter, Tazmin Tahje' Gulley, born Friday, August 18, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. She weighed six pounds and nine ounces and she was 18= inches long. The Nevada County Fair Association is sponsoring an ol' fashioned gospel singing Sunday, September 17, at 2 p.m in the air conditioned Potlatch building. The singing will consist of a large choir and specials. Everyone is encouraged to attend and to join the choir or to listen in the audience. The admission is free. The Hope Quilters Guild will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, September 7, in the Citizens National Bank conference room, Third and Elm Streets in Hope at 7 p.m. A youth party featuring a Christian rock band, Pocket Full of Rocks, of Texarkana will be held Saturday, September 9, at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The concert is city-wide with free admission. It will be held on the church's front lawn with the street being blocked off from traffic. Everyone is invited to attend. Union Missionary Baptist Church, Highway 53, near Bodcaw will be having a gospel singing Friday, September 15, at 7:30 p.m., featuring the Melody Boys. Everyone is invited. Prescott Elementary School's PTP (Parents and Teachers as Partners) fund-raisers are about to start. Today (Wednesday, September 6) at 9 a.m. the PES students will kick-off the fund-raiser in the activity room. The students will be handed out packets to be sent home. Parents are welcome to come. Monday, September 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the PES cafetorium will be PTP's first meeting to install board members. Anyone interested should attend. PTP membership, sweatshirts and t-shirts are still on sale. The shirts have Curley Wolf Prescott School on them. Order forms have been sent home with students. For more information about them call Roxie Reel at 887-1890. Many local talents will be performing Saturday Night, September 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Artesian Arts League auditorium above City Hall. There will ve singing, dancing, musical renditions, skits and entertainment for all ages. There will be limited seating so hurry to the Whistlin' Gopher, Prescott Flowers, or see any arts league member for advance tickets. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students. Mark this date on your calendar, take a break from the heat and join the fun. The Emmet School board will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, September 11, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. The annual report to the public will be held prior to the board meeting. The board's agenda will include the elementary and high school principals' report, superintendent's report and personnel matters. A meeting concerning diabetic education will be held Wednesday, September 13, at the Nevada County Extension Service at 532 West First South. It is free and open to the public. The meeting's topic is altering recipes.' Candace Carrie, County Extension agent-staff chairman will be the speaker. The series of meetings are sponsored by AllCare Pharmacy and Nevada County Cooperative Extension. There will be a Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce coffee Monday, September 18, at 10 a.m. It will be sponsored by the Nevada County fair queen contestants. It will be held in the Potlatch Building at the fairgrounds. Everyone is invited to attend.
