Businesses To RelocatePublished Wednesday, September 6, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneAt least three businesses in the block of 100 West Main will be moving soon. The Nevada County Picayune will be moving in about three months to 100 East Elm in the former Ledbetter's Department Store building. Remodeling of the structure gets underway this week, according to John and Betty Ragsdale, who are purchasing the building from Karen Taylor. Paul and Pat Frederick will be moving their business to 116 West First in the former Buchanan Drug Store building. Paul will continue his woodworking and crafts business. Pat will continue to sell collectibles and antiques. Movies At Home will also be moving to West First, according to owners Leon and Trudy Porter. They will be moving their business where Tropical Tans is located. Prior to their move to 121 West Main three years ago their movie rental business was located at 104 West First, the location of Tropical Tans, which they also own. The tanning booths will be moved upstairs, according to Trudy. Donald Jester, who owns Jester Auction on West Main, has not decided where he will be moving. He said Friday morning that he may have a location, but it has not been confirmed. The city of Prescott recently completed purchasing the entire 100 block of West Main on the south side, where these business are currently located. This block will be the site of the new Prescott-Nevada County Library. J. P. Westbrook, who owned the only other left in the block which has been empty for a few years, said Friday he may sue the city for fraud, stress and duress. He said he was lied to by the city and members of the committee about condemnation of all the buildings, and that was the only reason he agreed to sell. The city is also planning a park at the corner of West Main and West First on the corner that used to be the location of Sterling Store many years agoand an opera house in the nineteenth century. A mural depicting several scenes abuts the Sandusky building on that corner. Parking for the library is planned across the street between the library and Auto Parts and Supply at the former location of Chuck's plumbing. That property, now owned by Jenimy and Brenda Williams, is being torn down at this time. Brenda owns H&R Block that joins that property Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
