Letter To The EditorPublished Wednesday, September 6, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesAppreciation Shown Dear Editor: I just read an article in your Wednesday, Aug. 23, paper concerning the juvenile curfew. Your paper reported that part of the problem with juveniles is late parties at the old Gurdon Middle School gym supervised by Delton Simpson. I feel that a wrong impression might have been left with the readers concerning the work that Delton Simpson has been doing with the young people. Since I work with the Juvenile Court system I am in a position to see the wonderful and positive effects that Delton has had on the youth in the Gurdon area. I just wish that we had a hundred more like Delton and the others who work with youth programs in Gurdon. Delton regularly keeps the gym open for a recreation center. He pays for meals from his own pocket for kids who don't always have a home cooked meal to go home to. Delton teaches these kids how to work and maintain a work etiquette that will help them get jobs. Delton counsels with them about the danger of drugs and presents a great role model in a nation where good role models are few and far between. We need to appreciate men like Delton for their contribution to the community. The fact that Delton maintains the gym at night is good for the kids and the community. I am sure he encourages the kids to go home after it closes but while it is open it presents a good place for kids to be. I, for one, wish to thank Delton Simpson. Henry Morgan Clark County Prosecuting Attorney More On Simpson Dear Editor: We, the undersigned, would like to take this opportunity to show our gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Delton Simpson by saying thank you for your sincere efforts in trying to help the youth of the community by providing them an outlet for their enormous amount of energy.
