First State Bank of Gurdon will be having a pee-wee football team again this year. The team is allowed only 20 players on the team. In an effort to be fair coaches will select out of the 5th and 6th grades first. If any spaces are left open they will then choose out of the fourth grade.

A date for signing up will be given to students at school. It will include the fees and other information. For more information contact the coach Bud Hunter at 353-2822.

First Baptist Church of Gurdon will celebrate its homecoming Sunday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will follow the morning services. A special church history and song service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Advance arm-band tickets for the Clark County Fair and Carnival will be sold at Gurdon Primary School Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 5 and 6, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tickets are to be sold at Cabe Middle School Sept. 7 during the lunch break. Tickets may be purchased at First State Bank through Sept. 12.

Tickets may be used after 5:00 p.m. Sept. 12, 13 or 14. Only one arm-band per night may be used.

Beirne Rural Fire Department will be having its annual festival October 7. There is booth space available. Call Douglas Brumley at 353-6525 or Charles Shaver at 353-4640 for information.

There will be a food booth, entertainment, auction and cake walk. Booth set-up will start at 9:00 a.m. with the festivities starting at 10:00.

Community meeting for concerned parents and citizens to promote purposed safe, wholesome entertainment for young people, (C.P.C.) will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Gurdon Municipal building.

Gurdon Head Start is now accepting applications for children of ages 3 and 4 (by September 15) and who are income eligible.

The Miller County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host the 55th Arkansas annual state convention in Texarkana Sept. 9.

The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend.

The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather.

Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.
