Clark County Fair Starts MondayBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, September 6, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Even though school has just begun for the 2000-2001 year, it's time for the Clark County Fair once again. This year's fair will run Sept. 11-16, at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The schedule of events kicks off with the fair queen pageant at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Arkansas Hall on the Henderson State University campus. Tuesday begins with exhibits being registered from noon until 7 p.m., with the exception of plants, baked goods, crops, fruits and vegetables and fine arts. The carnival opens Tuesday, with armband day, starting at 6 p.m., while livestock, poultry and rabbits must be entered by 7 o'clock. On Wednesday the ornamental plants and flowers, baked items, horticulture and farm crops must be registered between 8 a.m. and noon. Judging will take place at 1 p.m. Registration for fine arts will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., with judging to begin at 1 o'clock. Those entering the pretty baby photo contest will need to register from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. as well. The annual fair parade will take place at 5 p.m. on Main Street, with the educational building opening at 6 o'clock. The swine, sheep and goat shows will follow at 6:30 p.m., with door prize drawings at 9:30 p.m. in the commercial building. Wednesday is also armband night at the fair. The fun returns Thursday with the educational building being open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., and armband night continuing beginning at 6 o'clock. Beef and dairy judging will be held at 6 p.m., with door prizes being drawn once again at 9:30 p.m. in the commercial building. The rodeo will take center stage Friday night at 8 p.m. The drawing for door prizes will be held at 10 o'clock. Saturday, though, is the big day, when the George Sharp Junior Livestock Sale dominates all events. This sale showcases the efforts of area 4-H and FFA students in the realm of raising livestock. The sale will be followed by an appreciation lunch for the premium buyers. Saturday is also kiddie day on the carnival grounds, with a pee wee show at 7 p.m. However, those entering must do so by noon Friday, Sept. 8. Livestock will be released at 9 p.m. as the fair winds down. Sunday, Sept. 17, those with exhibits are required to pick them up between 2-3 p.m., or forfeit any award they may have won. There will be no exceptions. On armband nights, the armbands are good for one night only each. A different one must be purchased for Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night.
