Will the class please come to order. School is in session.

Sorry I failed to get the column in last week's paper. I typed it up and forgot to send the e-mail. Guess I'm getting forgetful in my old age.

It's still hot and dry here. All the hot air from the politicians could be making it worse. In 1936 Bluff City reported 112 degrees in August and that was before air conditioning.

Our folks up in Missouri are reporting too much rain this summer.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 19, for Earl C. Johnson with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery. Earl was one of the "Gooseankle boys," the son of Matha Columbus Johnson and Ada Ira McKelvy Johnson. He was 81 years old.

Bro. David Nicholas was sick and not able to preach at Bluff City the

last two Sundays. We hope he is soon feeling better.

My nephew, Joseph McKelvy, left August 20 for Ft. Benning, Georgia, where he will be in training for about four months.

Here's something that might bring back memories for some of you. In March 1940 the junior-senior banquet of Bluff City High School was held at the Loda Hotel in Prescott. Eva Dell Starnes acted as toastmaster for the evening. At the conclusion of the event, they attended the movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame at the Nevada Theater.

Have a safe Labor Day holiday. Look for me again in about two weeks.
