There will be plenty of magical moments during the 2000 Nevada County Fair.

This year's fair, a week-long affair, will be from Sept. 16-24, opening with a horse show Saturday at 10 a.m. The horse show will be followed by the Lil Britches Rodeo at 6 p.m.

At 2 p.m. Sunday the fairgrounds will abound with the sounds of gospel music.

The real fun kicks off with a Chamber of Commerce coffee Monday morning at 10 to officially get things started. This coffee is sponsored by the Nevada County Fair Queens.

From 3-6 p.m. is entry time. During this three-hour period arts, crafts, photography, baked goods, quilts, household articles, food preservation, fall gardens, field crops and furniture can be entered for ribbons.

Tuesday, from 7:30-10 a.m., more entries can be made into the aforementioned categories.

At noon, on Sept. 19, the flower show and exhibits will be judged.

From noon until 5 p.m. livestock can be entered. This includes cattle, sheep, swine and goats.

The fair parade will fill the streets of downtown Prescott at 6 o'clock Tuesday, with the midway and carnival opening at this time as well.

An old timers rodeo will be held at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday the exhibit buildings and carnival open at 3 p.m., with the livestock show scheduled for 5 o'clock.

In the event of rain on Tuesday, the parade will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday has the carnival and midway opening at 3 p.m., with the exhibit buildings opening at 5 o'clock.

The livestock premium sale is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the fair pageants at 6 o'clock.

These include the Tiny Miss, for those contestants ages 2-3; followed by the little miss, ages 4-5, petite miss, ages 6-7, and young miss, ages 8-9.

Friday has no special events on tap as the Curley Wolves will be playing football, but the carnival and midway open at 3 p.m., with the exhibit buildings opening at 5.

Saturday will be the culmination of the fair, with the carnival and midway getting an early start at 10 a.m.

The exhibit buildings will open at 5 p.m., with the annual rodeo taking place at 6 o'clock.

Also at 6 p.m., the remaining fair queen pageants will be held in the Potlatch Building. This group includes: junior miss, 10-13; teen miss, 14-15; and Fair Queen, 16-21.

The night ends with all livestock being released at 9.

Sunday, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., all exhibits must be picked up, with the commercial booths being dismantled and removed.

At this year's fair, the best of show award winners will receive $25. The best of show awards will be presented in these categories: photography, arts, crafts, clothing, baked goods, quilts, household articles, food preservation, fall gardens, field crops and furniture. This will be in both the junior and senior divisions.
