James H. McAteer

James H. McAteer, 60, of Columbus, Ohio, died Saturday, August 19, 2000, at his residence after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

He was retired from the printing industry, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany. He was a member of American Legion Southway Post #144, Independent Order of Foresters, President of the Lost Chord Club for cancer victims and a long time volunteer at hospitals in order to help other larynx victims. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray McAteer.

Survivors include his wife of over 37 years, Frieda; mother and step-father, Vada and James Butler; children, Ingrid (Charles) Lockwood of Shelby, Ohio, Angelika (Goble) McCoy of Columbus, Ohio, and Linda Sue (Bruce) Adams of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Stephen Pack, Christina Pack, Janellen McCoy, Robert Adams and Michael Adams; five great grandchildren, Ridge, Tyler, Stephen, Victoria and Jarred; brothers, Kenneth, Jimmy, Tom, Roy and Beryl Butler; sisters, Esther Glasscock and Martha Shaddcock; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 22, at Schoedinger East Chapel in Columbus, Ohio, with Pastor Paul Vaughn officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Columbus. In Lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to the Lost Chord Club Cancer Society, c/o Woodrow Woodcox, 6700 Boaror Rd., Orient, OH 43146, in Mr. McAteer's memory.
