IP Mill Plans One Week Of Downtime

Published Wednesday, August 23, 2000 in the Gurdon Times

International Paper's Wood Products business announced last week that its Gurdon Plywood Plant will temporarily curtail operations for one week effective August 28. The downtime is due to unfavorable plywood market conditions.

"This decision was not made lightly and was made only after a thorough review of the economic situation," said Ron Freer, plant manager, Gurdon Wood Products. "We understand that this action directly affects our most valuable resources, our people, along with their families, and we will do what we can to lessen the impact. We are also committed to helping our customers and other stakeholders through this downtime period."

The Gurdon Wood Products plant with 555 employees is part of IP's Wood Products business with the company's Building Materials Group.

The business has 41 U.S. sites and includes 28 lumber mills, three oriented strand board plants, five plywood facilities, two pole plants, one laminated veneer mill and two distribution centers. Through improved log recovery and enhanced productivity, the business continues to increase its capacity and provide high quality wood products. More than 6,000 employees are part of the Wood Products team.
