Emmet Schools have been preparing the end of another school year with awards and student and teacher appreciations. On May 9 a special banquet for the elementary students with honor roll status and other achievements was held for them. On May 11 the high school students were honored. The school has been growing over the past several years. This past year two foreign students Rogelio Valdez from Mexico and Iria Poncela from Spain attended. A going away surprise cake was given to Iria Friday, May 14, from some of her classmates and teachers. She was also given special recognition from the city of Emmet with an 'Emmet Special Citizen' award. Awards for Rogelio going away should be this week as well. Many have learned from the two and will miss them very much. We wish them well in life when they return to their home country.

May 8 a spaghetti supper and auction benefit for Matthew McBride was held at the Emmet Chuck Wagon on his behalf to help raise money for medical expenses that has accumulated.

The Emmet PTA met May 13 for its final meeting of the school year with its officer election. The outgoing president is Karen Guteriz. The new president for the 1999-00 school year is Nita Stephens. Outgoing vice president is Anita Allen. The new vice president is Kathleen Mitchell. The outgoing reporter is Vicki Simmons. The newly elected reporter is Sherry Schmitt. Dianne Holowill was elected treasurer and Pam Elliott is the new secretary. A new officer title was voted in. Concession manager will be Don Mitchell beginning next fall. We wish this fall's school PTA well and hope that anyone who has a student attending will help take part in the PTA. Many great things are accomplished through the PTA. We thank the 1998-99 PTA for a good year. The group helped purchase gym equipment, some lockers in the hallway, new sound system for the stage, ball rack and gym lockers made. In addition it sponsored the basketball tournament appreciation, teacher appreciation and EBS reward parties. It also purchased some cheerleader uniforms, fourth grade library materials, plus many more items.

Last day of school at Emmet is May 25. May 16 the class of 1999 had its baccalaureate. Graduation commencement will be Friday, May 21 at 8:00 p.m.
