Two School Supply Drives Set

Published Wednesday, August 16, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

School is just around the corner and that means parents will soon be busy getting together the supplies their children need for the coming school year.

It costs around $30 for the paper, pencils, crayons, scissors, backpack, etc. that one child will need. For some families that is a hardship; especially multiplied by several children, or pair of shoes and clothes to cover the inches the summer has added.

This is the ninth year that First Presbyterian Church has sponsored a school supplies drive to help the children of this area. Last year with everyone's help, 75 sets of school supplies for grades K-4 were put together. This year the goal is to match that amount and more.

You are encouraged to buy an extra bottle of glue, a notebook, box of crayons, etc. and drop them off at First Presbyterian Church, located beside the post office, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 noon.

If you would like to make a monetary donation you may do so by mailing it to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 652, or you may bring it by the church and a committee will purchase the needed school items. All donations will be used to help the needy children in this area.

The school supplies drive will end Wednesday, August 16. If you have any questions concerning the drive call 887-2518.

Ila's Club Women has set up a school supply bank at the Upchurch Community Center.

School supplies collected will be given to children and families who are having difficulties obtaining supplies for their children for school.

The Upchurch Center will be open Friday evening, August 18, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, August 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
