Bluff City NewsJERRY McKELVYPublished Wednesday, August 16, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune According to the latest poll results from here, 99 percent are in favor of some cooler weather and some rainfall. News is scarce this week. Everybody is just trying to stay cool and dreading to see their next electric bill. Lindsey and Tyler Nelson from near Little Rock were visiting James and Kay Nelson last weekend. They are the children of Vince and Tonya Nelson. All of James' and Kay's grandchildren seem to enjoy the visits to the farm. James and Kay Nelson took a short vacation to Oklahoma last week and reported a good time. They took advantage of a lull in their farming activities for a little R and R. Steve Beaver and his father, Larry Beaver, just returned from a trip to Colorado. Steve said he wished he could have brought back some of the cool weather with him. Did you know that Prescott's first newspaper was called The Banner, established in 1875 by M. B. and Eugene White? I sure would like to see a copy. A. E. Adams (1858-1941) of Bluff City became known as "the terrapin man." According to a news report in 1932, he had found again a terrapin he had marked in 1886 with his initials, A. E. A. He had also found and marked it in 1904, 1906, 1918, 1923 and 1926. In 46 years it was never found more than 300 yards from the location of the first marking. This just goes to show that whatever you do, no matter how small, may earn you a place in history.
