Mrs. Marlar was born February 4, 1934, in Cale to Lige and Mildred Glass. She was a seamstress at Prescott Manufacturing, a part time employee of Sonic Drive-In and Fore's Department Store. She was a member of Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Marlar was preceded in death by her father, Lige Glass, and a brother, Coy Kenneth Glass. Survivors include her mother, Mildred Glass of Prescott; three children, Ricky Marlar and his wife Vicki of Prescott, Phil Marlar of Caney and Diane Marlar of Prescott; one sister, Nell Jarvis and her husband Fred of Camden; one sister-in-law, Ann Glass of Prescott; five grandchildren, Tonda Pennington and her husband Jim of Willisville, Tamra Marlar of Prescott, and Chris, Mendi and Wendi Marlar of Cale; a very soon-to-be great grandson, Bryer Pennington; seven nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. "Matt," to all who knew her, graduated from Cale High School, where she was a member of the Cale Red Devils basketball team. After graduation, she married Donald Marlar, a staff Sargent in the U.S. Marine Corps. Their military travels took them to many areas of the United States and abroad to Japan. She then returned to Prescott to settle and raise her family. She worked long and hard hours to provide a home and direction, which included being in church every Sunday morning and Sunday night. As in the basketball days in Cale, all through her life she displayed vigor and spunk to get the job done and to strive ever forward to provide for her family. In her later years she continued with this spirit with her grandchildren. Funeral was Tuesday, August 15, at Park Missionary Baptist Church in Prescott with Revs. Britt DuPre, Raymond Hicks and Jim Cross officiation. Burial will be in Morris Cemetery under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
