Yates Year Incredible On Diamond

Jarrod Yates had an incredible baseball season this year.

The Prescott High School senior broke three school records and tied another.

According to his coach, Steve Crow, Yates led the team in runs scored with 19 this year, along with hits, 13, home runs, 7, extra base hits, 8, walks, 16, and runs batted in, 16.

Yates also had the best batting average on the team, hitting .333, with a team high on-base percentage at .621. On the hill, he led the squad with two wins.

For the second straight years, Yates has been named to the District 7AAA team, and this is only the second time in school history this has happened.

His seven homers breaks last season's mark of six, set by Ben Jones.

The 16 walks ties him with four other players for second most free passes in a season.

His 16 runs scored gave Yates a total of 55, third on the school's record list in this category.

With the 13 hits this season, Yates ends his prep career with a total of 59, breaking the school record for most career hits. It was 57, set from 1996-98 by Al Johnston and Jones.

The seven round trippers he hit this season brings his career total to 11. This breaks the school record of 10, set from 1996-98 by Johnston.

Yates ends his career at PHS fourth on the list of walks. The 16 he had this year brought his total to 34.

The 16 RBIs Yates had this year ties him with Johnston for a career total. Both players ended their high school campaigns with 65 RBIs.

Yates' career batting average is .407, fifth best for the Wolves.

His lone double brought his total to 10 for a career, tying him for fourth on the list.

Yates also holds the school record for most RBIs in a season with 32, in '98, and the highest batting average in a season, .563, also in '98.

He ended his PHS career ranked in the top five of 14 out of 15 offensive categories.

These include: most runs scored in a season with 24; most runs scored in a career, 55; most hits in a season, 27, most hits in a career, 59; most doubles in a career, 10; most home runs in a season, seven; most homers in a career, 11; most walks in a season, 16; most walks in a career, 34; most RBIs in a season, 32; most RBIs in a career, 65; highest batting average in a season, .563; highest batting average in a career, .407; and highest on base percentage in a season, .696.

As a sophomore Yates hit .328, had 19 hits, scored 15 runs, drove in 17 RBIs, and helped the Wolves to a second place finish in the district 7A tourney and the semifinals in the class AA state tourney with a 12-6 overall record.

His junior year saw a .563 batting average, 27 hits, 24 runs, 32 RBIs, and helped lead the Wolves to a third place finish in the district tilt and the semis in the state tourney again, while winning the Prescott Invitational Classic.
