Carl Jennings George, 82, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, August 8, 2000, in Prescott.

Mr. George was born in Gurdon July 16, 1918. He was a retired police officer for the Sherwood Police Department. He was also a 22-year U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. George was a member of the U.S. Naval Fleet Reserves and the American Legion.

Survivors include his son, Gary Paul George of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Melvin C. George of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, LaWanna Plyler of Prescott; a grandson, Gary Paul George II of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and three nephews and four nieces.

Graveside services were held Thursday, Aug. 10, at Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon with Bro. Jimmy Hull officiating. Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
