Community meeting for concerned parents and citizens to promote purposed safe, wholesome entertainment for young people, (C.P.C.) will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Gurdon Municipal building. For more information call 353-2514, 353-6687 or 870-246-6858. Decipher Cemetery group will hold a meeting Saturday, Aug. 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Red Springs Baptist Church. The annual Purple and Gold Game will be Friday, Aug. 18, beginning at 7:00 p.m. There will be an alumni cookout immediately following the game. Gurdon Head Start is now accepting applications for children of ages 3 and 4 (by September 15) and who are income eligible. The Miller County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host the 55th Arkansas annual state convention in Texarkana Sept. 9. The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend. The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend. Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon. For more information, phone 353-4698.
