Time is drawing near for the 12th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival.

The festival is scheduled for June 11-12 in the Prescott City Park.

Festival T-shirts can be ordered at this time from the Chamber, all youth sizes, along adult sizes small through large will be $9 each. Extra large shirts will be $10, while XX and XXX will be $11 each.

Food vendors, along with those coming to sell arts and crafts have been getting their booth space set, with a few left in case any local vendors or artisans wanting to rent space.

Mary Godwin, Chamber manager, said it there are still several spaces left for the 10 by 20 foot booths to be placed.

Along with working to rent booth spaces, preparations for the festival are getting hectic in all areas.

Area cooks are being asked to get their best chicken and egg recipes together for the second annual Chicken and Egg Cook-off.

Recipes must be typed or legibly printed on 8.5 by 11 inch paper, on one side only, and include the name address and phone number of the entrant.

Chicken recipes must contain at least one pound or three ounces of cooked chicken per serving.

A minimum of three eggs must be used in each of the egg recipes, and must be a key ingredient of the dish.

Each dish is to be prepared at home and brought to the First Baptist Church educational building between 3-3:30 p.m. Friday, June 11.

Contestants, though, are being asked to pre-register by calling Godwin at the Chamber at 887-2101.

First place in each division will be presented $50 in cash, while the second place recipes will take home $25.

Winners will be announced at 7 p.m. Friday, June 11, on the festival stage.

A new event for this year's festival is a magic show, featuring Tim McGeowan. He will perform two shows Saturday, June 12, one at 10:45 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m. on the festival stage. His act is family oriented and will last about 45 minutes.

The best part is it's free to the public.

For those parents planning to enter their children in the third annual Little Miss Hen and Little Mister Rooster pageants.

Applications can be picked up at the Chamber, with the entry fee being $15 per entrant.

The pageants will be held Saturday, June 12, at 2 p.m. on the festival stage. Contestants will be required to be at the stage by 1:45 p.m., though.

Contestants can wear sun suits, bubble suits or short sets. No sun dresses, hats or swim wear will be permitted.

There will be first and second place winners in each division, with the girls getting a trophy, crown and banner, while the boys will get an embroidered cap, banner and trophy.

All entrants will be given a certificate for participation.

For more information about the pageants call Dot Daniel at 887-2834, or Godwin at 887- 2101.

Runners who plan to hit the pavement in the 5K run/walk need to be getting their applications in as well.

Those who pre-register will pay a fee of $12, while it will cost $15 the day of the race. For the children in the Chick Chaser's fun run, the entry fee is $5.

The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 12, and follow its traditional course, starting at 223 Elm Street by the Nevada County Courthouse.

Awards will be presented three deep in all age groups, with T-shirts given to the first 80 entrants.

And, if this isn't enough, any local talent interested in performing on stage Friday night, June 11, needs to contact Godwin at the Chamber, or Julie Stockton at the courthouse.

Tyson's has again agreed to be the sponsor of the 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Entry fees for this will be $60 per team in the men's division, age 18 and up, and $30 per team for those teams ages 17 and below.
