Earl Johnson was brought back to Camden last week and is in rehab at the Ouachita Medical Center. He is still very weak.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Mrs. Helen Kelley, who celebrated a

birthday last Sunday at her home.

I would like to say a job well done to the ones who painted the mural on the wall at the vacant lot in Prescott. You can't miss it if you travel through Prescott on the main roads. I can remember doing our Christmas shopping at the Sterling Store that once stood on that lot. That was way back in B.W. (before Wal-Mart).

Congratulations to Bill Walker and James Tomlin on the 30-pound plus cantaloupe they grew this year. I don't know which one got to eat it, but there should have been enough for both (and I bet they saved every seed).

Elloene McBride's family was featured in a nice article last Sunday in the Camden paper. It was about her father, William Moore, who was a Civil War soldier. It's hard to believe we have a daughter of a Civil War soldier residing in Bluff City.

We sure could use a good rain. This 100-degree weather takes its toll on man, beast and plants.

Graveside services were held at Bluff City Cemetery last week for Harvey Golden of Gurdon, who passed away August 1.

Linda and Bill Carman had Tyler and Brady Carman visiting a few days last week.

I suppose parents are busy buying back-to-school clothes for their children. It won't be long now. Back in 1933, the Bluff City PTA was making clothes from cloth distributed by the government to give to the needy students so they could go to school. This was near the end of the Great Depression when times were hard for most folks. In fact in March of 1933 a "funeral" was held in Camden to allow everyone to say farewell to the Great Depression. Over 500 people attended this event.
