Fire ants seem to be a hot topic no matter where we go.

As everyone is aware fire ants can be a problem in well houses, lawns, flower beds, dog kennels, heating and air conditioning units, along with numerous other problems around the home or farm.

Recently a neighborhood in Prescott decided to take on the challenge of getting rid of fire ants in their area. The approach they've chose to take to control fire ants in their neighborhood is to start a fire ant abatement program.

The group will work together to abate and control the spread and progress of fire ants in their neighborhood. They will coordinate and time the proper application of baits in their yards.

There will be a short program on Monday, August 14, at 6:00 p.m. to review the abatement program, different baits available to combat fire ants and a demonstration of proper bait application. The program will be conducted at 605 East Main in Prescott at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Labe Haynie.

For additional information concerning this or any other Cooperative Extension Service program, contact the Extension office at 887-2818.
