Letters To The EditorPublished Wednesday, August 9, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneDear Editor, Poor old Prescott! Let's not do anything which could possibly bring commerce in! Why should we have any extra money for the community? Evidently we don't need it; just look at the past due amounts on the electrical service! If I were to let my electric bill lapse for two months, you'd darn well bet the service person would be flipping my switch off without any hesitation! Just who are these folks that can let their amounts total $1000 or more? Maybe......the money backers for Mayor Taylor? Don't guess we'll know since he chooses to "ignore the question." If the Texarkana Gazette can list lawsuits/divorces filed can't Prescott list those overdue accounts? And if those folks are embarrassed they should be for letting their bills go like that! But in reference to Aegis this is a reliable service which Christus St. Michael Health Center utilizes. Aegis is indeed a very environmentally safe service which does indeed have quite an ingenious system of cleaning biomedical waste. Christus St. Michael chose to use them due to their care of the environment which is part of our mission statement. So what, if they are only able to employ five or six people in the area. That's five or six more jobs than there were and at a darn good rate of pay also! Why can't Prescott have new businesses that employ just a few? Maybe when other small businesses see that Prescott will cater to the smaller employers more will come. Gee, just imagine a few small businesses in town scattered here and there, being able to walk in and deal with a real person or to call on the phone and actually talk with a real person, as opposed to larger, more corporate employers where you get computerized answering machines wanting you to push "1" or "2" and hopefully someone will answer before your patience snaps. With backward, silly thinking like the"honorable"Mayor and other City Council members have all Prescott will EVER have is: one grocery store! And that's all they deserve! Kudos to John Miller and Ricky Ragsdale and their editorials concerning Aegis. Phyllis Haynes Texarkana Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
