Steve Crow Hired As New Prescott Parks DirectorBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, August 9, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune Thirteen resumes were submitted for the position of Prescott Parks and Recreation Department Director, but only one person was hired for the job. The Prescott Parks Commission went through all 13 resumes, scheduled interviews then selected Steve Crow to replace the retiring George Odom. Gary Lewis, parks commissioner, said it was a difficult process with a lot of good applicants and a tough decision. "I think we selected the best one and one who will do a good job for us. I think any we'd have picked would have done a good job." Crow has tendered his resignation with the Prescott School District, where he has been coach of the junior high football team and head coach of the Prescott High School Curley Wolf baseball team. Ron Wright, Prescott superintendent, said the coaching staff met Friday morning to weigh its options. This is the third coach the district has had to replace this year. At the end of the school year Bill Cossey resigned as head girls basketball coach, while David Bennett tendered his resignation in mid-July to take a job at Dierks High School. Crow has been with the district since 1979, and where he has taught and coached the following subjects: physical education, health, driver's ed, world history, Arkansas history, junior high football, boys basketball, junior boys track, senior boys track, girls track and baseball. He also has more than 30 years experience in parks and recreation related youth programs, working with the Prescott Baseball Association as its president and vice president. For the past nine years Crow has been a member of the Prescott City Council. Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor said Crow, if he accepts the position, will have to resign from the council. To fill this slot, Taylor said, a special election would likely be held to replace Crow, otherwise an appointee would be there for two-and-a-half years without being elected. Crow represents Ward 1, position 1 in the city. A retirement party for Odom has been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce. The event will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
