4-H Clubs Are EncouragedPublished Wednesday, August 2, 2000 in the Gurdon TimesIf you are interested in giving your children every opportunity to grow and develop the Clark County Cooperative Extension Service suggests you have your children join a 4-H club. There are several in the county. By belonging and participating youth acquire essential life skills through planned "learn by doing" experiences and that it will promote and develop leadership and civic mindedness in young people. 4-H is community based and family oriented. Therefore 4-H clubs will help build a better community, according to the Extension service. 4-H is one of the educational programs of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas, and is open to all youth between the ages of 5 and 19. The regular 4-H program is for youth ages 9-19 years old. The Cloverbuds program is open to youth ages 5-8 years old. If you would like to become a member of 4-H or Cloverbuds or would like more information about 4-H in your community contact one of the adult leaders listed below to find out about the next meeting nearest you. Hilltop meets in Gurdon in the Cabe Student Center at the high school the second Monday of each month. Vicky Lynn is the leader. She can be reached at 274-3463. Four Leaf Clover meets first Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Arkadelphia in the EHC kitchen at the fairgrounds. Marilyn May is the leader. She may be reached at 246-7354.
