2000-2001 GHS Football Schedule GivenBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, August 2, 2000 in the Gurdon Times Football season officially kicks off Friday, Sept. 1, across the state. Gurdon will open its season at the friendly confines of Go-Devil Stadium, hosting Fouke, a AAA team. In fact, Gurdon's first two games are at home, with the second, Sept. 8, against new foe, Hot Springs Lakeside. Lakeside replaces Lake Village on the Devils' roster. Week three will be much like a home game as the Devils make the trip in to hated maroon and white country to face long-time rival Prescott. However, when Gurdon takes on the Curley Wolves, the Wolves will be led by a different coach as David Bennett recently vacated the spot to return home to Dierks. Gurdon also beat Prescott in 1999 in Gurdon to take the annual Pigskin Classic, sponsored by The Gurdon Times and Nevada County Picayune. Conference play opens with Gurdon hosting the Mineral Springs Hornets on Sept. 22, followed by a road trip, Sept. 29, to Dierks. On Oct. 6, Gurdon will entertain Stamps, before returning to the macadam Oct. 13 for a trip to Lewisville. Fans will be hoping for dry weather as the Lewisville stadium becomes a quagmire in the rain. Foreman has to play Gurdon at Gurdon this year, with the date being Oct. 20. The Devils haven't forgotten how they were cheated in Gator country last year and plan on gaining a measure of revenge. Gurdon's last road game will be against Murfreesboro on Oct. 27, with the Devils concluding the regular season at home against the Horatio Lions.
