Hospice Classes Set For VolunteersPublished Wednesday, July 26, 2000 in the Nevada County PicayuneArkansas Department of Health Hospice program will be having a four-week series on Dealing with a Terminal Diagnosis' beginning July 31 and going through August 21. Training will be offered for anyone interested in becoming a hospice volunteer, or learning more about providing support to others during this trying time. One may learn about hospice philosophies: how hospice helps families and their loved ones cope with the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of dealing with a terminal illness. Here is the schedule. Week 1 July 31: Overview and history of hospice featuring Sandi Kiehn, LCSW, a hospice social worker, discussing The Stages of Grief.' Week 2 August 7: Role of Spirituality in Hospice' by the hospice chaplain and staff. A field trip to funeral home. Week 3 August 14: Role of the Volunteer in Hospice' will be discussed by Barbara Stone, a volunteer coordinator, and by staff and volunteers. Week 4 August 21: Conquering Fears' including physical signs and symptoms by Janet Dunn, RN, a hospice specialist in Area V and the hospice coordinator.
