Melissa L. Goff, program director of the Arkansas' Governor's Scholars Program at Arkansas Department of Higher Education, has announced that Kristen DiAnne Teague, the 18-year-old daughter of Dr. Audie and Pam Teague of Prescott has been selected as the 2000 Nevada County Arkansas Governor's Scholar.

This prestigious award is valued at $16,000 over the next four academic years at any Arkansas public or private college or university.

From almost 2,000 qualifying applicants only 100 such prizes were awarded based on academic excellence, leadership and American College Testing scores.

Ouachita Baptist University complemented the Arkansas Governor's Scholarship by awarding Teague the OBU Trustee Scholarship, a full academic scholarship including room and board for the next four years. She will enter OBU this fall to major in pre-medicine. She plans a medical specialty in ophthalmology.

Teague graduated from Prescott High School with a 4.0 grade point average in May. She was one of the two seniors chosen to represent PHS at the Governor's mansion. She was a highest honor graduate, an outstanding senior, a Curley Wolf cheerleader, a Wolverette, Miss PHS and Miss Nevada County. She was awarded the Arkansas Activities Association Active Scholar Award, in recognition of a well-rounded high school career, combining outstanding academic achievement with participation in interscholastic activities.

Teague is the granddaughter of Audie and Dorothy Teague of Marked Tree and Bob and Juanita Brunner of Bradenton, Fla., and Hot Springs, formerly of Marked Tree.
