Memorial Scholarship Established

Published Wednesday, July 26, 2000 in the Nevada County Picayune

A scholarship fund has been established in the name of Justin Phillips, who died Monday, July 17, in an auto accident.

The account has been set up at the Bank of Prescott and is called the Justin Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund.

According to his cousin, Kathie Johnson Williams, the family hopes to make this a perpetual scholarship so other students will be able to attend college.

She said it is hoped the first scholarship from this fund can be given out to someone in the Class of 2001, which would have been Phillip's graduating class.

Williams said Phillips, who would have been a senior this year, planned on becoming a doctor, specializing in cardiology.

"This is a way to help keep his memory alive," she said.

Those wanting to apply for the Justin Phillips Memorial Scholarship or make a donation to the scholarship fund should contact his parents, Jeff and Debbie Phillips at 870-658-2095.
